Pagans often get a bad rap when it comes to movies and TV. If witches aren't shown having green skin and a giant wart (think "Sleeping Beauty"), they are at least seen as connected to a darker side of reality (as in "Sleepy Hollow" or other movies with the village outcast being a witch). When they are shown in a more positive light, it's very light-hearted and less realistic (think "Charmed" and "Practical Magic"). Then there is the magic of Harry Potter that is more about fantasy.
Do you know of any movies or TV shows that cast Pagans and/or Witches in a positive and realistic light? What would it take to get a better impression of witches out in the media these days? Would better media exposure help raise awareness, do you think? Take this topic and run with it... Get your friends involved in the discussion, too.

And now for a word from The Witches of Fawsettwood. That goal of realistic fiction is exactly what I portray in my unpublished novels in the Cup and the Ring series. Does the media see stereotyped witchery as the only image of Wicca? Is that why I cannot seem to hook an agent? (along with a lack of effort the last several months).
Self publishing and Print On Demand has changed drastically in the last year. Previously, books published outside the usual channels were shunned, unreviewed, too often unsold. Now with the electronic books, the requirement that authors market their own works anyway, and a proliferation of services designed to help a self published book look as professional as possible, these books have a big new audience and are available through Amazon. That is a different world entirely.
So later this year around Yule, look for The Witches of Fawsettwood. See if you agree my book offers a different flavor than "wicca lite".
